More Pillowcases and the Marine Corps Quilt

Two nights ago I met with several other ladies and we made 30 pillow cases in one night!  We have now collected 72 pillowcases on our quest to donate 200 of them to Cases for Smiling Faces.  It is so interesting to see the fabric that is matched for these really fun Pillowcases.  I am thinking of making several just for grandkids and for family members.  Think of all the fun thinks that you can do with the scraps in your sewing room.  I am looking forward to making Halloween Pillowcases for the grandkids to use trick or treating.  Think of how much your family would love to have their own Christmas Pillowcases.  I think that the possibilities are endless.

Today I received the last of the military quilts from the Quilter Laura Walls.  It has really turned out to be a nice piece.  I cannot wait to see what each of these will bring on Armed forces day.  These will be auctioned off at a Lions convention.  Should be a great day!

I have started to receive requests for quilts from charity group in my quest to use as much fabric as I can in this year out of my stash and to give the projects to charity.  Well I am on my way to make the binding for the Marine Corps Quilt.  Must keep moving on to bigger and better projects each day.

3 New Pillow Cases

I am so excited about this project with Conn-Kerr Cancer.  Now when I look at my fabric stash all I see are pillow cases.  It amazes me that I had never heard about this project.   So now I am so enthused with coming up with new combinations of fabrics.  Making these pillow cases for these cancer and seriously ill children just seems something that I should do.  Our womens group has made a goal of making 200 pillow cases, I want to make at least 25 of them.

The Army quilt is done

I am so excited.  The Army quilt is done and I really like it.  The quilt is off to the quilter’s house to be quilted.  1 down and 3 to go.  I made a really cute pillow case today for Con-Kerr Cancer project.  It has frogs and flys on it and I hope it will make someone smile.  So it will be back to the design b oard for the next quilt and some more pillow cases.

Army Quilt

Today I am working on the Army Quilt.  It is so hard to design a pattern something that will be wonderful and yet understated and elegant…  I am using some batiks that are really interesting.  One of the batiks looks exactly like the camo print on the Army guys helmet.  Anyway I am cutting blocks and cutting strips hoping that something will pop into my mind that will make it all come together.

I am so excited to make these quilts and honor those that have sacrificed so much for all of us.  I know that it sounds so cliche but it is really the way that I feel.  Today I sat next to a really amazing man at my Lions club.  His name is Roger Guernsey , he is a WWII Vet.  He has done amazing things and is the most delightful man.  He goes by Roger Dodger Landslide Guernsey and he has made my life so sweet just by knowing him.   I cannot wait to donate these quilts and see how much money they will bring in for our community.  Well it is getting late and I must go back to work in the morning.  I am so excited that the weekend is coming so that I can spend more time sewing.  Also Happy Birthday to my ver y cute soon to be Daughter-in-law Camie

Military Quilts

Today I am starting 4 new quilts for a Lions Club convention that will be held on May 14-16 2010.  These quilts will be auctioned off and I do not have a pattern.  I am going to create an Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Quilt.  All will be original and each will have their own Seal in the middle of the quilt.  Robert Kaufman designed some really nice fabrics and I will be filling in the spaces with my stash fabric.  I will start cutting the fabric tonight, wish me luck!

Sewing for Charities

I promised myself years ago that I would clean out my sewing room.  Instead through the years I have added more and more fabric.  I have donated many quilts, table runners, scarves etc. over the years.  My goal is to sew every day and donate as many articles as I can to charities.  So come along and give me your suggestions, share your patterns and I will be happy to share mine.   I will post some photos of my disasterous sewing room and the fabrics that I will be using this next year.

Welcome to Sewing for Charities

Well this is the disaster that I work in.  I am going to clean up this mess and use this stash to make a difference in the next year.  My goal is to use all of my fabric by quilting or sewing items for charities.
